Koshi Chimes String not hanging straight

Is the string on your Koshi chime not hanging straight?

This is usually something that happens during packaging and is very easy to fix. Inside the top of the bamboo tube there is a small bamboo stick that the cord is attached to. When the lid of the white gift box is closed, the metal hook can catch and turn slightly rotating the stick inside and causing the cord to pull to one side. It takes under two minutes to put right.

Koshi chimes are handmade and tuned by hand with great care.
The fix is just as simple: find the little bamboo stick at the top of the tube and turn it gently until the cord hangs straight again.

You can turn the stick in either direction, whichever brings the cord back to centre.

No worries about the golden pins at the top: they are simply locating pins, not screws. Turning the stick will not damage them.

Does This Apply to Zaphir Chimes?

Yes. Zaphir chimes use the same internal mechanism at the top of the resonance tube, and the cord alignment fix is identical. The tube material is cellulose rather than bamboo but the geometry inside the top section is the same. Apply exactly the same steps: locate the cross-bar through the top opening, rotate it back to horizontal, hang and test.

If after applying this fix your chime still produces no sound, the issue may be a tangled inner string rather than an alignment issue. See the article on Koshi chime string twisted or tangled for the next troubleshooting step. If the chime produces sound but seems less active than expected, see the guide on why a wind chime stops chiming for placement and air movement advice.
