Koshi Earth Symphony Set of 2 Chimes. Made in France

Two Koshi Earth Symphony chimes of your choice in one set. The Earth Symphony collection comprises four chimes inspired by the great presences of Nature: Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees, tuned with reference to 440 Hz, with twelve rods instead of the eight found on the original Koshi 4 Elements chimes. Resonance chamber in European fine wood: walnut, oak, cherry or maple.

The four melodies were designed to be played alone or in dialogue with one another. They share the same harmonic coherence, so any combination stays in harmony.

How to play your Earth Symphony set of 2

Basic playing: hold a chime by its cord and let it hang freely. A gentle turn of the wrist sets the clapper in motion and releases a cascade of notes. The wider the movement, the more rods sound. A slow pendulum swing plays individual notes.

Played together: the tunings share the same harmonic coherence and can be layered in any order or combination without clashing. Two people can play two chimes at once, or one person can move between them.

In the wind: in a sheltered outdoor spot, for example on a veranda or under a porch roof, or by an open window, the breeze plays melodies of its own.

Meditation: open with one chime and close with another.

Recording and musical use: tuned to 440 Hz, the collection accompanies other instruments and voices without retuning.

At a glance: 2 chimes, 12 steel rods each, hand-tuned to 440 Hz, resonance chambers in European fine wood (walnut, oak, cherry or maple), brass and coconut shell clappers, each approx. 16 x 6.3 cm (6.3 x 2.5 in), 35.5 cm (14 in) with cord, approx. 145 g (5.1 oz), plastic-free, handcrafted in France.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in this set?
Two Koshi Earth Symphony chimes of your choice from Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean, each in its own Koshi box.

Which combination suits me?
Mountain in walnut, in E major, sounds broad, grounded and contemplative. Forest in oak, in F# minor, sounds deep and dense. River in cherry, in G# minor, sounds fluid, bright and luminous. Ocean in maple, in pentatonic B major, sounds vast, deep and enveloping.

Can the chimes be played together?
Yes. The four Earth Symphony tunings share the same harmonic coherence and can be layered in any order or combination without clashing.

What makes Earth Symphony different from the original Koshi Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis?
The 4 Elements chimes have eight rods, a resonance chamber in bamboo veneer and are tuned to an adapted 432 Hz. The Earth Symphony chimes have twelve rods, four of them doubled as resonators, a resonance chamber in European fine wood (walnut, oak, cherry or maple) and are tuned to 440 Hz. The result is a broader, deeper sound that resonates for longer.

Is the set suitable for meditation and sound healing?
Yes. The chimes are used to open and close meditations, in sound baths, in sound yoga and in sound therapy alongside singing bowls and gongs.

Where are they made?
Every Koshi chime is handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the Pyrenees in France. Gaia Chimes sells only original Koshi Chimes sourced in France.
